Local Pollution - Tackling Rubbish in the Play Ground!

[Room 8 Fairfield]

We decided that we would look at pollution with our first change the World project, we are starting with the rubbish in the playground.

We are going to make posters and design some art to paint onto the recycling bins to make them look attractive.

We would love to hear some ideas from other classes of ways that they have tackled pollution in their school grounds.

We would love to share our ideas with you. We have also been looking at ways to reduce litter in our playground. Some of us are trying to be wrapper free with our lunches. We have set up green buckets for organic waste, made three short videos to teach the rest of the school and we have made enviro monitors a duty and we have created an enviro award that the children decide who has been enviromentally aware.

Here is an idea that worked for our school......

Our school had a Mighty Tidy award given out at Assembly each week.
Each class was assigned an area to keep clean in the school ground. If they noticed it was looking messy they would spent a few minutes after lunch/recess giving it a little clean.
We had a trophy and it was presented to the cleanest area each week. The class captains would collect the trophy at assembly and display it in their class until our next winner was announced.
